As we continue our journey with the Frederick Douglass narrative, in class we will have smaller literature circles and questions to answer regarding Chapters 7 and 8.

The questions are listed below:

Questions for Chapter 7

How does Mrs. Auld try to inhibit Douglass from learning to read and write? How does he succeed in attaining his aim?

For homework, read Chapter 9 and answer the following questions:

Under what conditions did Douglass live when with Thomas Auld and his wife at St. Michael's? What behavior toward a lame woman slave does Douglass record?
