MONDAY - April 12, 2010

AGENDA for today:

HAND IN YOUR PRUFROCK ESSAYS!

You should have read through Chapter 6 of The Great Gatsby before today's class.
Take a number as you come into the room and sit in your numbered group.
We'll review the instructions for group work as a class.
Work in your Literture Circles...you will receive a GROUP GRADE
Regroup as a whole class and share your discussion answers.

LIT CIRCLE EXPECTATIONS:
-One person will write down your discussion/answers
-One person will keep track of the time...ALL three questions musts be discussed/answered
-One person will keep the group discussion on track
-One person will encourage everyone to participate
-One person will make sure their worksheet is handed in at the end of class
-EVERYONE will participate in and contribute to their group's discussion!

QUESTIONS:
(1) Tom was not very nice at Gatsby’s. Why? Do you think his behavior was justified?
(2) What did Dan Cody represent to Gatsby?
(3) What does changing his name from Gatz to Gatsby help Gatsby to achieve?
(4) Fitzgerald never shows the reader a single scene from the Gatsby and Daisy affair. Why? Do you wish he had? Explain.
(5) Why do the West Eggers mock and despise Gatsby? Why do they come to the parties?
(6) Make some predictions: What do you think will happen in the following relationships…Gatsby & Daisy, Tom & Daisy, Tom & Myrtle, Nick & Jordan
