THURSDAY - April 8, 2010

AGENDA for Today:

You should have read through Chapter 4 of The Great Gatsby before today's class.

Take a number as you come into the room and sit in your numbered group.

We'll review the instructions for group work as a class.

Work in your Literture Circles...you will receive a GROUP GRADE

Regroup as a whole class and share your discussion answers.



LIT CIRCLE EXPECTATIONS:

-One person will write down your discussion/answers

-One person will keep track of the time...ALL three questions musts be discussed/answered

-One person will keep the group discussion on track

-One person will encourage everyone to participate

-One person will make sure their worksheet is handed in at the end of class

-EVERYONE will participate in and contribute to their group's discussion!



QUESTIONS:
(1) Now that you know the story of Gatsby and Daisy’s past, what deeper connections can you make to the symbolism of the green light at the end of the dock?


(2) Why do you think Daisy went ahead and married Tom and didn’t wait for Gatsby to come back after the war?


(3) Explain why Nick, who can now see Gatsby more “clearly”, might feel such contradictory admiration and repulsion for Gatsby all at once?
